You have probably heard the phrase “Content is King” before, but I don’t think it’s true. There are so many different types of content that can be created for your audience and relevance is what makes a piece of content successful. Here are some reasons why you should create relevant content and a few strategies to help you do this.

WHY?

No one likes to be interrupted in there day with things that don’t consistently bring value to their life. This is why we have a pile of unopened pieces of mail sitting on the counter, or in a bin. That junk mail will never see the light of day. The same thing goes for our email inbox, our social media, and YES…Your Website!

Creating content because it is trending, you saw someone else do it & it worked, or just to say you are creating content is counterproductive to building a sustainable online presence. Approaching content creation this way can quickly make your brand message unclear to new viewers, lose past viewers, and ultimately not take your content seriously. Ultimately too much random content will make you irrelevant, and stored in the junk pile.

How to consistently create relevant content?

  1. Have an objective & goal for your the platform you use. It doesn;t matter if it is Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or you Blog. Set an objective for what type of value you’ll bring through this platform, and set a measurable goal to see if what you are currently doing is helping you to achieve it.
  2. Schedule your content for 30 days. If you followed step one, this content should be relatively around the same topic, objective, & goal.
  3. Listen to your community! Ask questions, read comments, reply to DMs, and provide answers to questions in the form of content.
  4. Pay attention to current events. Changes is happening everyday, and I’m sure you find some current news and relate it to you business, organization, or service. Share how those changes affect your clients, your industry, your business, or how you service or product could bring value to current events.

Don’t believe the hype that simple “Content is King”. Make sure your content stays relevant and aligned with your mission, vision, objectives, and goals. When you focus on relevant content, you’ll create something that your audience will love and want to share.
