You can easily over complicate your approach to social media for your brand. The truth is there is no secret formula. You have to spend sometime testing out what your audience likes specifically from you and measure that. Otherwise, you’ll be applying strategies and tactics in hopes that it works, when you could easily just pay attention to what your people are telling you. You do, however, have some fundamental things you can do help in you social media efforts.

This first starts with a plan.

I create a general roadmap for my clients when we start out. It’s a white boarding session where we put it all on the table and figure out what you are looking to do, and how all these thing align with your goals. You’ll have homework to do that will include posting to social media. By the time you’ve executed you receive a plan that looks similar to this:

This is the basics to building your brand on social media.

Some of the pitfalls to avoid

  1. Focus on 1 platform if you’re just starting out. Trying to create for all of them will drive you crazy. Do the work on one and perfect your process, then work to bring value on another platform. Your audience will follow if it’s done right.
  2. Create content ahead of time. I usually like to have 30 days of content. That way you can schedule post to go out automatically. You then have the option to freely create posts of what’s happening daily on your own time.
  3. Done is better than perfect. Don’t spend a lot of time trying to make it perfect. I’m guilty of this! A lot of creatives are. But, get your message out there. It’s doing you no good inside a folder on your laptop, or in that spiral notebook. #makeithappen
