If you are reading this you should already know the power of the internet and having a website. Without a website for my brand you would not be able to get the sounds of Dres & Mista Lawnge, and Digital Marketing advice all in one place.

Thank You Websites! LOL

The truth of the matter is there’s an entire digital world right here online and if you are a business you need to make sure that you have some “real-estate” for your brand.

The tricky part about this is which route should you go? With so many quick fit options out there for creating websites, you can easily get confused or get caught up in what someone tells you you need. But, the best way to find out what you need is by doing the research yourself, or get the facts form a trusted developer.

I’ve been both ends of the spectrum…a new business looking to have a website built

And a business owner who learned to develop websites for myself and my clients…

Here’s my advice.

  1. Determine what you ar looking to build. Is this a business you are testing out or is this a business that embodies everything you want to do? If it’s a quick business idea that you are testing to see if it’s worth pursuing, then a simple site like WIX or Weebly would work temporarily…keyword TEMPORARILY. If it is a business that you are looking to build a sustainable brand for, then you just need to pony up and build your own website.
  2. Do your research. See what your industry leaders have. Do they have wix/weebly based sites or do they have their own site. What is their site built with? You can see what people build their websites with by checking out BuiltWith.com. Thank me later.
  3. Think of your website like your home. You can RENT an apartment and call it home. This essentially what you are doing when you join a subscription based website platform like Wix or Weebly. You can RENT a house. This is when you give it all to the web agency and know nothing about the backend of your site and how to make it work for you. They own the domain, they own the hosting, they build the site and make it feel like yours. Or, you can BUILD a home yourself. This means you purchase the hosting (land), You buy the domain (the address), you get the FRAMEWORK (WordPress), and then you CONTRACT A BUILDER to come make it look like the house you want (Web Developer or UX UI Designer).
